A prototype of a web service is described that could reuse the translations in the database of the ICNP BaT to provide automatic translations of nursing content based on the ICNP terminology globally. The translation web service is based on a service-oriented architecture making it easy to interoperate with different applications. Such a global translation server would free individual institutions from the maintenance costs of realizing their own translation services. %B Studies in Health Technology and Informatics %I IOS Press %P 320 - 324 %8 2009 %@ 0926-9630 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/820 %N 146 %R doi:10.3233/978-1-60750-24-7-320 %0 Generic %D 2008 %T Interdisciplinary engineering of intelligent systems : some methodological issues %A Doeben-Henisch, Gerd %A Bauer-Wersing, Ute %A Erasmus, Louwrence %A Schrader, Ulrich %A Wagner, Matthias %K basic intelligence unit %K intelligence %K intelligence profile %K interdisciplinary standard for intelligent behavior %K Lernendes System %K systems engineering %I UEFS %C Salvador %P 17 - 28 %8 2008 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/821http://www2.uefs.br/graco/amacs/pdf/doeben-henisch-adapcog.pdf %0 Journal Article %J eHealthCom %D 2008 %T Schwester 2020 : die ePflege steckt noch in den Kinderschuhen %A Stausberg, J. %A Hübner, Ursula %A Schrader, Ulrich %K Pflegeinformatik %B eHealthCom %P 14 - 20 %8 2008 %@ 1862-7897 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/822 %N 6 %0 Book Section %B Studies in Health Technology and Informatics %D 2007 %T Health Care in 2020 %A Weaver, Charlotte %A Kennedy, Rosemary %A Erdley, W. We introduce the concept of "consumer as a direct employer" of healthcare services. In this model, nurses may work as independent contractors, or as a member of a team contracting out as a unit, as in our example of the Rhine Home Health Team. The migration of classic courses to a web-enhances curriculum can be categorized into three phases independent of the technology used. The first two phases "dedicated website" and "database supported content management system" are mainly concerned with bringing the learning material and current information online and making it available to the students. The goal is here to make the maintenance of the learning material easier. The third phase characterized by the use of a learning management system offers the support of more modern didactic principles like social constructionism or problem-oriented learning. In this papers the phases as they occurred with the migration of a course of nursing informatics are described and experiences discussed.. The absence of institutional goals associated with the use of a learning management system led to a bottom-up approach triggered by faculty activities that can be described by a promoter model rather than by a process management model. The use of an open source learning management systems made this process easier to realize since no financial commitment is required up front. %B Studies in Health Technology and Informatics %I IOS Press %C Amsterdam [u.a.] %P 559 - 562 %8 2006 %@ 1-586-03622-X %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/815 %0 Book Section %B Handbuch der Medizinischen Informatik %D 2005 %T Medizinische Dokumentation, Terminologie und Linguistik %A Zaiss, Albrecht W. %A Graubner, Bernd %A Ingernerf, Josef %A Leiner, F. %A Lochmann, U. %A Schopen, M. %A Schrader, Ulrich %E Lehmann, T. The authors have co-operated in the nursing informatics working group of the German Medical Informatics Association GMDS. Besides, one of the authors has been active in the European summer school of nursing informatics (Essoni) for several years. The authors have now established a national counterpart to the Essoni program, the German summer school of nursing informatics. This event in German language is centred around nursing informatics topics. Students may opt for one of the several study tracks to gain insight in topics such as nursing classifications and nursing terminologies, clinical information systems and their implementation or teaching requirements in nursing informatics. They go through a 5-day curriculum consisting of plenary sessions, lectures and opportunities for self learning and self teaching. At the end they demonstrate to the fellow students from the other tracks what they have achieved in their own field of study. The German Summer School is open to interested nurses, nurse executives and nurse teachers. In this paper, we will describe the curriculum, talk about the participants and show results of the questionnaire-based evaluation for the first two events in 1998 and 1999. %B International Journal of Medical Informatics %P 307 - 317 %8 09/2000 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/832 %N 58-59 %0 Conference Proceedings %B Medical informatics and epidemiology for efficient health care and medical research %D 1999 %T A German summer school of nursing informatics %A Bürkle, T. %A Schrader, Ulrich %E Victor, N. %E Blettner, M. %E Edler, L. %K Deutschland %K Pflegeinformatik %K Unterricht %B Medical informatics and epidemiology for efficient health care and medical research %I Urban und Vogel %C München %P 151 - 155 %8 1999 %@ 3-86094-112-7 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/838 %0 Journal Article %J Studies in Health Technologies and Informatics %D 1999 %T How can we improve informatics education for German nurses : statements derived from the first German nursing informatics summer school %A Bürkle, T. %A Schrader, Ulrich %X For German nurses it is difficult to join training in health informatics besides their professional activity. The authors have successfully established a German nursing informatics summer school in shape of a 5 day intensive curriculum which they offer to German nurses during the summer holidays. The summer school introduces nurses into health informatics and nursing informatics. It targets interested nursing staff, nurse executives, and nurse teachers. It promotes self learning abilities for continued self education of the participants. One of its goals is to enable participants to formulate their own requirements in health information processing and to influence system design and system introduction. The paper presents the curriculum, talks about first experiences, and demonstrates the results of an evaluation among the participants. Conclusions are drawn in a set of statements on informatics education of nurses. %B Studies in Health Technologies and Informatics %I IOS Press %C Amsterdam %P 944 - 947 %8 1999 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/839 %N 68 %0 Conference Proceedings %B PEP'99 Conference %D 1999 %T Matching EPR with generic knowledge on the physician's workstation: achievements and future aspects %A Schulz, Stefan %A Schrader, Ulrich %A Zaiss, Albrecht W. %A Klar, Rüdiger %K Elektronenspinresonanz %B PEP'99 Conference %8 1999 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/878 %0 Book Section %B Multimedia in der Pflege %D 1999 %T Nursing Informatics : eine Disziplin etabliert sich %A Schrader, Ulrich %E Meurer, P. First, an asymmetric network load, due to the requests of a large number of PACS clients for only a few main servers, should be compensated by communication links to the servers with a higher bandwidth compared to the clients. Secondly, as the number of PACS nodes increases, the network throughout should not measurably cut production. These requirements can easily be fulfilled using switching technologies. Here asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is clearly one of the hottest topics in networking because the ATM architecture provides integrated support for a variety of communication services, and it supports virtual networking. On the other hand, most of the imaging modalities are not yet ready for integration into a native ATM network. For a lot of nodes already joining an Ethernet, a cost-effective and pragmatic way to benefit from the switching concept would be a combined ATM/Ethernet switching environment. This incorporates an incremental migration strategy with the immediate benefits of high-speed, high-capacity ATM (for servers and high-sophisticated display workstations), while preserving elements of the existing network technologies. In addition, Ethernet switching instead of shared media Ethernet improves the performance considerably. The LAN emulation (LANE) specification by the ATM forum defines mechanisms that allow ATM networks to coexist with legacy systems using any data networking protocol. This paper points out the suitability of this network architecture in accordance with an appropriate system design. %B IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine %V 2 %P 26 - 29 %8 03/1998 %@ 1089-7771 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/844 %N 1 %0 Conference Proceedings %B A paradigm shift in health care information systems: Clinical infrastructures for the 21st century %D 1998 %T From communication server to information server : simplifying the concept %A Schrader, Ulrich %A Zaiß, Albrecht W. %A Büchele, S. %A Klar, Rüdiger %E Chute, C. HTML documents can be easily developed to be distributed by a web-server or to run as local applications. In developed countries CBT and hypermedia have to compete with an abundance of printed or audio-visual media and a wealth of lectures, conferences, etc., whereas in developing countries these media are scarce and expensive. Here CBT programs, and hypermedia publications in particular, may be a cost-effective way to improve quality of education in the health sector. %B Methods of Information in Medicine %V 36 %P 149 - 153 %8 1997 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/851http://www.schattauer.de/en/magazine/subject-areas/journals-a-z/methods/contents/archive/issue/1182/ %N 2 %0 Conference Proceedings %B Proceedings of the AMIA Fall Symposium %D 1997 %T Critical success factors for a hospital-wide PACS %A Schrader, Ulrich %A Kotter, Elmar %A Pelikan, Ernst %A Zaiß, Albrecht %A Timmermann, U. %A Klar, Rüdiger %K Krankenhaus %K PACS %X Since 1996 a picture archiving and communications system (PACS) is installed at the university hospital of Freiburg. The PACS is integrated in the hospital information system (HIS) and several modalities of different vendors are attached to it. During the implementation phase three critical factors to the success of our PACS installation where identified: the support of the workflow, the interface of the radiological information system (RIS) to the modalities, and the security policy to allow hospital-wide access to the images and results in the PACS. %B Proceedings of the AMIA Fall Symposium %I Hanley & Belfus Inc. %P 439 - 443 %8 1997 %@ 1067-5027 %G eng %U http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2233597 %0 Conference Proceedings %B Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie - GMDS '97 %D 1997 %T Ein Modell zur Evaluation medizinischer CBT-Programme %A Auhuber, T. %A Schulz, S. %A Schrader, Ulrich %A Klar, R. %E Muche, R. %E Büchele, G. %E Harder, D. %E Gaus, W. %K Computerunterstütztes Lernen %K Evaluation %K Medizin %B Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie - GMDS '97 %I MMV Medizin Verlag %C München %V 82 %P 126 - 130 %8 1997 %G eng %U http://fhffm.bsz-bw.de/frontdoor/index/index/docId/853 %0 Conference Proceedings %B Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery - CAR'97 %D 1997 %T Experience with PACS in an ATM/Ethernet switched network environment %A Pelikan, E. %A Ganser, A. %A Kotter, E. %A Schrader, Ulrich %A Timmermann, U. %E Lemke, H.
