A Vision of Students Today

This is a fascinating video highlighting some of the problems that will surface in universities in the coming years. The questions will be: Can we as professors cope with this development , or do we want to cope with it? I am afraid, if we don't, we will make ourselves obsolete. It is not just a question of technology. It is a question of changing the way we teach to take into account new ways of learning.

Lehrmethode: SpeedGeeking = Speeddating mit Anwendungen

Nach der Methode des Speed-Dating werden verschiedene Anwendungen jeweils kurz vorgestellt. Es gibt verschiedene Stationen an denen jeweils eine Anwendung von einem "Kenner" vorgestellt wird. Nach einem festgelegten Zeitintervall geht geht jeder Besucher zu der nächsten Anwendung. Dieses wird so oft wiederholt, bis jeder jede Anwendung kennengelernt hat.

Screencasts und Podcasts - Erfahrungen mit der Nutzung in der Hochschullehre

An der FH Frankfurt wurden im Wintersemester 2006/2007 im Rahmen eines Projektes Vorlesungsmitschnitte in Form von Screencasts und Podcasts Studierenden zur Vertiefung, zum Nacharbeiten und Wiederholen sowie als Ergänzung des Lernstoffes angeboten. Dieses kann als ein relativ risikoarmer Einstieg in Blended Learning Strukturen verstanden werden.

E-Lunch online — eine informelle e-Learning Fortbildung für Hochschulangehörige

Heute wurde auf  e-teaching.org der "E-Lunch online — Rechenzentrum Universität Freiburg" von Dr. Reiner Fuest und Bettina Couné, M.A vorgestellt. Dass der Hunger damit gestillt wird, ist nicht bezweckt. Vielmehr handelt es sich um zwanglose Zusammenkünfte von e-Learning-Interessierten der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg, die mittels Adobe-Connect durchgeführt werden.

EU Report: Video games are acknowledged to be potentially good for kids

I found this draft report on the protection of consumers, in particular minors, in respect of the use of video games (2008/2173(INI)) by the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection. It does contain some interesting statements about the beneficial effects of videogames, that have been all over the web. Let me quote a few:

If you want to brush up on your English and want to learn and study at the same time, iTunes U might be the place to go. Several universities offer their courses or lectures freely on iTunes. Here is a collection. Please feel free to comment, if I forgot to mention another university.

Great article by Diane Skiba on the use of twitter in education

There is a great article by Diane Skiba on the use or twitter in education. She compiles a number of examples of the use of twitter in education from several blogs. I particularly like the ideas of the One-Minute Paper, Knowledge Probe, Muddiest Point, One-Sentence Summary, and What's the Principle? It can be extremely helpful that students have to restrict themselves to  just 140 characters to express their thoughts.
