Search universities for resources

A simple way to find resources published by universities or academic institutions is to use the Google search. The site parameter can be used to restrict the search to the academic domain, if such a domain is defined in the country you are interested in. Unfortunately not all countries do have an academic top level domain. Canada or Germany for example do not have such a top level domain.

  • .edu - searches academic institutions in the USA
  • .ac.uk- searches academic institutions in the UK
  • .ac.nz- searches academic institutions in New Zealand
  • .edu.au - searches academic institutions Australia
  • .ac.at - searches academic institutions in Austria
  • etc.

Just start your Google search string with "site:<academic domain> <search interest>.

Below are some examples:

  • site:.edu webcast (run the search)
Searches for webcasts published on websites by academic institutions in the USA.
  • site:.ac.nz webcast (run the search)
Searches for webcasts published on websites by academic institutions in the New Zealand.
  • site:.edu.au lecture statistics (run the search)
Searches for lectures on statistics (or statistics about lectures ;-)) published on websites by Australian academic institutions
  • site:.edu.au lecture videos statistics (run the search)
Searches for lecture videos on statistics (or statistics about video lectures, or ... ;-)) published on websites by Australian academic institutions
